Holistic Healing
Focusing lends itself very well as part of a programme of holistic healing. It helps with pain relief, and not only that, it helps to get to the root cause of the problem, if there is an emotional connection. With Wholebody Focusing, you create the right conditions for the body to show you what it needs, and to find its own way of healing itself. It is a remarkable process. With support and guidance, you create the conditions for spontaneous inner-directed movement. The body itself finds what would be a right way of being, beyond what you know or could imagine. The results are surprising and always in the direction of fuller life.
Although Focusing works very well as a holistic healing process on its own, it is best incorporated into a holistic healing programme. There are many excellent therapies available and the key is to find the right approach and the right practitioner for you. You are a unique individual, and one size does not fit all, when it comes to holistic healing. Your practitioner is also a unique individual and it's important that you feel comfortable and safe with how they are working with you.
Here are some examples of holistic healing from my own life and that of others who are working with Focusing. I have chronic back pain and I have tried many different kinds of therapies, all of which helped a bit. Recently I participated in a project researching into Focusing with pain, at the same time as taking a course of acupuncture and changing my diet. Success! The benefits have been enormous. The level of pain has dramatically reduced, back to a level it used to be, years ago.
Focusing enabled me to be with the pain in an accepting way, which allowed it to shift and release. It also showed me what is behind the pain and how the body was trying to compensate for misalignment or misuse. Focusing also supported me in all the feelings and problems that arise in my life because of the pain - feelings such as frustration, inadequacy and anger. I felt soothed, much calmer and more able to cope. I made clear decisions about lifestyle changes, and what I needed to do to support my holistic healing. I was able to follow through on those decisions and take positive action. Through Focusing, I was much more resourced and could manage the situation better.
A friend has found significant change in the chronic pain she was experiencing, by Focusing with it. She chose not to do other therapies at the same time, so she could be sure it was the Focusing that made the difference.
Focusing colleagues have also told me of times when they were able to Focusing immediately with acute pain, such as burns, and remarkably, the effect on the body was much less than it would have been, and they healed much quicker.
Another colleague has worked intensively using Focusing with pain. She uncovered and resolved layers of emotional pain stemming from her childhood. Her journey of holistic healing through Focusing has been deeply transformative.
