The BFTA Focusing Skills Certificate Course

This course is recognised by The British Focusing Teachers' Association (BFTA)

The BFTA Focusing Skills Certificate Course is divided into 5 weekend levels. You can take the weekend courses one at a time, joining the next course when it suits you, or you can take the course as a whole. The course needs to be taken in sequential order, as each level builds on the skills previously learned, building up your own personal growth and development.

Objectives:

Learn how to Focus with a Companion

Learn how to be a Focusing Companion

Learn how to become present to your experience

Develop a base for integrating Focusing into your life

 Personal growth and development

The course is experiential, with plenty of opportunity to practice. Learning takes place through a combination of demonstrations, theoretical presentations, experiential exercises, practice periods, and question and answer sessions.

Outcomes of each level:

Level 1: The Essence of Focusing

Learn how to listen to your inner wisdom through creating a positive inner relationship with yourself. Develop the knowledge and skills to begin to practise Focusing alone, and to begin to listen to an other, so you can Focus with a companion.

By the end of Level 1, you will have a basic understanding of the Focusing process.

Level 2: Becoming Companions

Practise the listening skills that enable you to companion someone else in a Focusing partnership. Expand your Focusing skills and deepen your ability to listen to yourself encourage your personal growth and development.

By the end of Level 2, you will be able to join a peer group of Focusers, form a Focusing partnership, and attend further or advanced classes and workshops.

Level 3: Companionship

Learn how to support the Inner Relationship of the Focuser with their felt experience. Deepen your own Focusing skills.

By the end of Level 3, you will have a deeper understanding of the Focusing process, and will be able to guide yourself through the process. You will also be able to support another Focuser with your listening skills.

Level 4: Reminders

Learn how to offer reminding suggestions in a Focusing partnership. This takes you deeper into the heart of the Focusing Process, and the relationship between a Focuser and their companion.

By the end of Level 4, you will be able to offer guiding suggestions to your Focusing partner, and to extend your ability to self-guide.

Level 5: Deeper and Further

Learn more about 'presence and partiality' - developing your ability to be fully with whatever needs you attention, and the biases and no-go areas that can interfere with that. Make Focusing fully your own. Times for further practice and demonstrations. Bring your questions, and what you would like to explore.
